Dear Affiliate,
Dirk and Marcel here from Homepage-Wizard.com ...
After having all the tools available you need for building your
website...
(remember?)

...you are surely thinking about how your site should look like.
The design of your site largely will be influenced by your personal
ideas, the kind of niche you have selected and the type of site you
are going to build. For sure you have already got some ideas from
other web sites when surfing the web and doing research about your
niche.
Or you may have simply chosen one of the many website templates
that are already included within xSitePro.
But however your website will look like, you must make sure one
thing will be achieved, because it is vital to your success:
Your site structure must be build in an ideal way.
Ideal for both, the search engines and for your site visitors.
The good news is, that this can be done easily. And once set up,
the complete process will repeat itself automatically every time
you are adding new content to your website.
Here are the most important points to consider. Make sure to get
them right, because these little things can mean the life or death
of your online business!
---------------------------------------------------
SPIDERABILITY AND USEABILITY
---------------------------------------------------
Useability means, your website users should be able to navigate
within your website easily.
You achieve this best by selecting a site structure that is clear,
clean and common. Avoid too many distracting content and blinking
images and banners. Keep it clear and simple.
Best is, you have your main link menu at the top-left side of your
page (within the left border). This is where most websites have it
and your visitors will look at this place first when they try to
find out about the sub-pages of your website.
By the way, this also provides the ideal solution for spiderability
as well.
Spiderability means to arm your website with a linking structure
that the search engine spiders can follow. These "spiders",
"crawlers" or "(ro)bots" as they are called are little software
programs sent from the search engines like Google or Yahoo.
They crawl through the entire internet automatically and all by
themselves, constantly looking for new internet pages and content
to pick up day in and day out.
Every time these spiders find a new website, they follow the links
on that page to index all pages, sub-pages and sites they will find
behind these links and feed these pages back into the search
engines index. And before you know it, your new pages can be found
on Google.
When selecting your linking structure, do NOT go for "modern"
solutions such as Java-Script links or links within "Flash".
Most search engine spiders cannot follow these links. Even the latest
Google Bot that now can follow these links cannot follow all of them,
and often it can follow but not index correctly.
Therefore, it is highly recommended to only use clear HTML links
(the ones that start with "href..." in the code) and you will be on
the safe side. By the way, modern web editing software such as
xSitePro will create this linking structure automatically for you,
yet in the design and fashion you chose.
If for any reason you cannot avoid using Java or flash links make
sure you add a clean HTML linking menu to the bottom of your page
as alternate linking method for both search engine spiders as well
as visitors with older browser versions. So at least the bots can
follow these links if they cannot read the other ones.
---------------------------------------------------
REACHABILITY
---------------------------------------------------
Next important point is the reachability. Reachability is defined
in how many clicks a site visitor or spider needs from the Homepage
of your website (index.html) to reach a sub-page. Your important
pages should never be more than 1, 2 or max. 3 clicks away from
your Homepage.
The deeper in your website structure tree a webpage is, the less
importance search engine spiders will give to this page. Pages deep
down in the linking structure often do not even get picked up by
the search engines and never reach their index.
Next your linking structure will also have a certain effect on the
PageRank of every of your pages. PageRank is a factor based on a
certain algorithm Google uses to determine the importance of a web
page.
The higher your PageRank in a scale of 0 to 10, the more weight
Google will give your website if someone searches for a particular
keyword or phrase in the search engine.
The closer a page will be to your homepage in terms of your linking
structure the better it will be for it's PageRank with Google and
other search engines as well.
Your homepage usually will have the highest PageRank factor of all
of your pages.
Having a "short distance" linking structure it will be able to "lend"
some of this factor over to some of your sub-pages that are linked to
it, thus improving their PageRank factor a little. This in turn can
and will result in more total visitors to your website.
---------------------------------------------------
SITEMAPS
---------------------------------------------------
An important factor to increase reachability is to have a so called
site map within your website. The sitemap is a page of it's own
that shows all pages of your complete site. And as all links to all
pages are on this one page, every link is no deeper than one click
away. Or two clicks as from the homepage.
There are two kinds of sitemaps. HTML site maps (for users AND
search engine spiders) and XML site maps (for search engines and
RSS feeds).
The cool thing with XML sitemaps is, that they "ping", means notify
the search engines such as Google automatically every time new pages
and new content has been added to your site. This is GREAT stuff!
xSitePro is automatically creating both kinds of sitemaps (HTML and
XML) for your website and is also updating and publishing both
sitemaps each time you make any changes to your site, without you
having to even think about it. It's all automated and set up in the
most user and search engine friendly manner.
This is one of the many reasons why we so highly recommend this great
web design and total site management software to our members:
